If you’ve never played Origins before, I would recommend playing at least one full game unmodded. I went ahead and purchased a lifetime subscription because I use it a lot, but if you’re tight on money, you could do a one month sub for about three bucks and download everything you need within that time. Most of these mods are exclusive to the Nexus Mods, which now does have a pretty substantial download cap for free users. These are mods other folks made and were kind enough to share with the world. This is a list of approximately 50 mods that I currently have installed in my game, and I’ve tried to divide the list into categories that will make it easier for you find the recommendations you’re looking for. 
And for the handful of adjustments that require a little extra effort, there’s a lot of documentation available. For the more complex modifications, there are tools to automate the clunkier processes. In most cases, you’ll just have to drop a file into a specific folder.
Dragon Age Origins was the second PC game for which I ever sought out mods (the original Sims was the first), and I feel like it’s a pretty easy game to install mods.
